World's Largest Wind Chime

With chimes suspended 49' above the ground, the BEI wind chime stands 55'3" tall and is a sigh to behold! The longest of five chimes is 42' long - nearly double that of the previous world record holder. Casey, Illinois may be known as the small town with a big heart, but now it officially has a BIG landmark to show off. Jim Bolin, co-owner of Bolin Enterprises, Inc. and creator of the wind chime, announced Friday, June 22, 2012 at 7pm that the wind chime has officially been named to the Guinness Book of World Records as the World’s Largest Wind Chime.

The wind chime, located at 109 East Main Street measures over 55 feet from the ground to the top, 16 feet taller than the previous record holder, and is constructed with five metal tubes which are suspended 49 feet from the ground. The total structure, including the chimes, weighs 16,932.4 pounds.

The dream to build the World’s Largest Wind Chime was inspired by Jim Bolin’s childhood memories of him listening to wind chimes at his Grandma Whitling’s home. Combining his passion for wind chimes and his knowledge of the pipeline maintenance industry, Jim dedicated almost two years of his life to the design, planning and fabrication of the wind chime. Thanks to the collaborative efforts of several Bolin family members and friends, the wind chime was assembled and officially measured on December 15th.

"We were just trying to think of something that would energize the community and maybe bring some traffic through Casey," said Bolin. And the Casey residents say they couldn't be more proud of what the Bolin family has done.

Visitors are encouraged to sign the chime's guest book, located on the porch next door at the Whitling Whimsy restaurant, and to take a photo next to the wind chime to add to the wind chime’s Facebook fan page.
